DT: “Another Heavenly Records commission… originally for a single release… by… No I won’t go into that (it’s an odd business)… Needless to say, it wasn’t used in the end.
I like the image. I think it relates to the food chain and ingestion… Who eats who and what? I like the idea of trying to set up a nice group photograph of animals that would normally kill and eat each other… I’m sure I’ve seen it done before for TV ads… cats and dogs and mice cuddling up by the fire…that kind of thing.
It’s a funny image, I think… I like the little chuckling chick… and I must say that I really like tears in paintings…
The idea, of course, is that of crying over spilt milk… The kitten policeman is suitably dangerous… presumably holding some sort of moral high ground… Police and law enforcement loom large in my imagination and I’m not entirely sure why… A lot of my art involves the idea of sequence: feelings fuel actions - actions have consequence… The police figures may well be symbols of prohibition and restraint… all that super-ego stuff… I simply don’t know”
